Indicators for states and counties are based on data from a variety of federal and state agencies. These include the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and state health departments. For specific and detailed data sources, please see references cited at the bottom of each indicator page.
While not all data sources on this website provide data below the county level (cities, towns, census tracts, etc.), you can find a wealth of information about smaller areas at the U.S. Census Bureau's American Factfinder website (http://factfinder.census.gov/). You can also contact your local reference librarian for additional help.
