The self-employment rate is the percent of all employed people who have their own businesses (“proprietors”) as opposed to working for someone else in return for wages or salary.

In 2021, the self-employment rate in Fremont. . .

  • was 43.8 percent, compared to 41.2 percent in 2010, 36.1 percent in 2000, 32.1 percent in 1990, and 28.8 percent in 1980;

  • was 43.8 percent, compared to 26.1 in Idaho;
  • ranked 3rd – from highest to lowest – out of Idaho's 44 counties.

·         Has the local self-employment rate remained constant over time, or has it changed over the years?

·         “Employment: Unemployment rate” – Are self-employment rates increasing as unemployment rates increase (e.g. are people starting their own businesses when other jobs are not available)?
