Reservations and trust lands are different from tribes, although people who live on reservations may be tribal members. (For definitions of these terms, please click on “Glossary” at http://factfinder.census.gov/.)
Here, we provide indicators for American Indians on the 47 reservations and trust lands in the 4-state region for which the U.S. Census Bureau reported data from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing. By reporting the information, we do not imply judgement about what does or does not constitute a reservation or trust land.
Reservation names used here are from the Census Bureau's data files. We understand that some of these names are not necessarily preferred by people who live on the reservations. We would appreciate hearing from you about names that are no longer commonly used and should be corrected.
