Washington: Number of primary care physicians

This indicator is calculated by dividing the number of primary care physicians by the total population. We multiply the result by 10,000.

In counties with relatively few people, a small change in the number of primary care physicians may have a significant effect on rates from year to year.

In Washington in 2020. . .

  • There were 8.4 primary care physicians per 10,000 population, compared to 7.6 per 10,000 in the U.S.
  • There were 6,500 primary care physicians in Washington compared to NA in 2016.

To get the most out of this indicator . . .

Ask questions:

·         Are there enough local physicians to meet the health care needs of the local population?

·         Does your county have a high or low number of physicians per 10,000 people?

·         Is the number of physicians per 10,000 people increasing or decreasing?
